Meadow Signage

Part of our ethos at the  St Eval Community Land Project is education, so it was vital that we provided the community with some informational signs about the species they could see and hear while wandering the meadow. We also wanted to install a noticeboard to keep people up-to-date with events and notices about meadow life.

What We Did

One of our meadow organisers Claire whipped up the designs, and some kindly local folk helped to put the posts in the ground and get the noticeboard mounted. There was a sign about the birdlife spotted in and around the meadow, one about all the bugs and other creatures you can see, and also one identifying each species of wildflower which thrives in this special space. We dotted these signs around the meadow, making sure that they were at a height where they were easy for children and wheelchair users to see. We put the bird sign near the big bird feeder in the corner so twitchers could check their knowledge whilst watching our feathered friends feeding!

How We Achieved It

We raised money for the signs by holding a crowdfunder appeal for local residents and businesses to get behind us and support our campaign. The noticeboard was kindly sponsored by our good friends Barney and Emma at Porthcothan Bay Stores, and the rest of the signage was paid for by proceeds of the fundraiser too.

Sept '21 -The Result

The meadow noticeboard stands as a warm welcome to meadow users at Sunderland Road entrance. We display signs about jobs that need doing around the meadow, events we are holding, and general safety advice about using the meadow too. We realise that not everyone is on social media, so this is a great place to keep the community connected. If any local organisations wants to advertise in the noticeboard we welcome it free of charge - just get in touch with the meadow team!
